Avanyu Warm-new 11x14 inches matted

Title: Avanyu warm-new
Artist: Jerome L. Martinez

Signed and matted by the Artist Jerome L. Martinez
The Tewa word for Rain serpent or plumbed serpent is Avanyu. This traditional design is found decorating the black on black pottery of the Tewa speaking Pueblo’s of the Rio Grande. The artist has three variations of this painting, this is called “warm” because of the colors. Within the Avanyu is the sacred night sky with floating Bear track designs, the Bear is symbolic for strength and healing. To the left and right are squash blossom designs and along the top and bottom borders are traditional cloud designs and a Sun symbol directly above and center.

I have been been painting for over 42 years and I am one of many talented Great Grandchildren of world famed Potter Maria Martinez.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

The overall dimensions are 11 x 14 inches, matted with a white clean backing board and protected with a high quality re-sealable clear plastic sleeve.
